keitai for the win

Posted on August 13th, 2005 in Japan, Music

Why are keitai cameras so wonderful?

Well, if you’re wandering the SummerSonic music festival and run into the lead singer of the Arcade Fire, you can totally geek out and take a photo.

Without a keitai camera, you’d just think I was a liar. Who’s lying now, liar?!

More tomorrow.

oooh oooh did you tell him how overrated his band was? ;)

but seriously, that’s a weird photo. were you supposed to be in it, or were you kind of trying to sneak into it? I’m confused. It’s good nice colors, though, for a cell phone shot.

I hate you. I never get to hobnob with rockstars.

Though, AK, I have to tell you that according to my friend whose band toured with them, they ARE kinda douchey. Also, AV, I like how in the picture you’re kinda doing the lean in, like “Hey, ROCK STAR PICTURE (plus andrew).”

My comment got truncated for reasons I can only guess at. How annoying. Anyway, I love the Arcade Fire so props to you for mentioning them (and me thus checking them out).

Adrienne: Anyone I know? Not the great Matt Armstrong, is it?

That would indeed be the great Matt Armstrong. Matt, sadly, is too cool to hang out with a dopey biologist like me, but I still go to their shows and act all supportive. Truth is, I really just have a total girl crush on their cello player (she’s totally adorable.)

Actually, I think his exact impression was that they weren’t as friendly as he’d hoped. Maybe being the overnight darlings of the indie music world affected them adversely? Or maybe they’re just Canadian? What with their floppy heads and beady little eyes?

To be honest i have never even heard of arcade fire, but i can tell just by looking at that lead singer guy that i wont like them.. He is trying way to hard to look cool, and failing miserably..
Now franz ferdinand, there is a band for ya..! I caught them last november in yokohama.. It is safe to say, they rocked..
I shall keep my ears out for this arcade fire band though, and if they are touring in good old blighty within the next year or so then i will probaly check them out.. [if i can be arsed that is]:)

Nifty! Never heard of Arcade Fire but now I’ll have to check them out :D Still, it’s always cool to meet musicians. I remember meeting Nelly Furtado at a banquet a few years ago.

Wow. I was just listening to the Funeral album you got me over Xmas this morning. Very cool. I think they are overrated too, but it’s not in a “gosh, they’re music sucks” way. It’s more like, “why aren’t other bands with better talent being acknowledged” way. Bands like Iron & Wine, for example.

Anyway, hope you are enjoying Feist :)

Adrienne: Cool, I ran into him at Guitar Center a year or so back. He seemed to be doing well. What’s his group called, again?

AK: Band is called “Murder by Death” and now everyone is going to get all mad at Matt for slandering the Canadians. Bwa ha ha! They’re… weird. I dunno, I find some of their earlier stuff (the Little Joe Gould days) a little more listenable. As a side note, they like whiskey. Buy them some if they ever come to Dallas.

Also, Janice, Iron and Wine? Can bite my butt. Really. If only for that horrid cover of The Postal Service’s “Such great heights.” Get with the biting, Iron and Whine.

One other thing; If you’re interested, you can send this picture in to Blender. Every month they publish 6 pictures of fans with artists, and those that get published win a prize. Right now it’s a $200 cell phone (which you might not find that interesting, but you could have it sent to your parent’s house and ebay it).
